Sean grew up in Memphis, Tennessee with his Chinese father and Japanese mother. Through watching his father heal childhood cancer at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and hearing his mother teach Japanese at the University of Memphis, he became certain that he wanted to combine the two elements of healing and communication.
This desire first appeared in his ambition to become a neurologist. However, a chance encounter with a speech by Director Karl Paulnack of the Boston Conservatory revealed the necessity and healing power of music. From there, Sean has spent over 10 years binding the worlds of music and medicine. He grows more certain that he’s made the right choice between the two; he’ll pursue both in earnest.
“…someday at 8 PM someone is going to walk into your concert hall and bring you a mind that is confused, a heart that is overwhelmed, a soul that is weary. Whether they go out whole again will depend partly on how well you do your craft.” – Karl Paulnack
